Overview of 2021 Writing Accomplishments
Fourteen of my poems and four essays were published tin 2021.
From three hundred poems, I formed a full-size poetry manuscript I am submitting. Grateful thanks for the support I had for this giant process from a good friend and poet.
Anne Lui Kellor accepted me into her year-long Memoir writing program to develop my manuscript about being a long term survivor.
Two weeks at the Mineral School Residency Program in November provided rest, inspiration, and the rare experience to have time totally devoted to the creative process. 2021 was a year of major change, I am delving into my work at a deeper level. My time at the residency was fruitful, and I am applying to other opportunities for this kind of deepening experience.
My committment last year was to submit poems to at least one journal each month, so this year I had less poems published then the prior three years, but my work expanding into writing essays and memoir so my time has been split. This year my goal is to develop my memoir.
I’m grateful to be part of a weekly Saturday morning group, Writing through the Apocalypse, we write from prompts. An anthology from this group is in the works!
The Dangerous Writing North group, started with three of us from Seattle in 2003 after a Tom Spanbauer week at Cannon Beach, is on pause. I was the last remaining founding member, with others who joined at various times. We will reconsider continuing in the fall.
