Julene has practiced Continuum movement, since 1988 when she took her first intensive in New York City with its founder Emilie Conrad.
In 1996 she went to her first Poetry In Motion with Emilie and Rebecca Mark. Smitten, she started creating and running Muse To Write Circles that integrate movement and breath to evoke body-centered writing.
She brought her experiential workshops to Seattle’s Cancer Life Line. This work is in the field of Transformation Language Art; the act of writing and being witnessed to find and create meaning in one’s life. It is one of the many healing traditions.
Julene created a spoken word performance art piece, “The Wailing Wall,” which she performed it at Seattle’s “Intimate Stage” in July 2003. With assistance from Joe Plotts, she produced a CD incorporating her poetry, breath, and wails for a background.
Julene has longed for a wailing wall and believes it is needed to mourn our many losses. Her piece is dedicated to the over one hundred clients and friends who have died from AIDS complications.
The following year she performed her creation, “Spin The Bottle” featuring her poems of women’s sexuality. In each performance she uses Continuum movement as her medium.
Julene continues to explore the use of music and words.
